At age 11, Eddie Harrison befriended Steve Opremcak (age 12), a classmate who also lived in the neighborhood. They soon realized they enjoyed playing guitar and just playing whatever came into their heads. Within weeks, Eddie's brother Chuck Harrison joined them for some improvisational jamming. Chuck (also age 12) didn't even have a full drum set at the time...just a snare and a cymbal. This was definitely not the smooth jazz sound that are usually associated with freestyle jam sessions. It probably sounded more like alley-cats knocking around tin cans...but it was a start.
An early event solidified their love for playing music. Steve's mom (Mrs. "O") took the guys to see a live band called Synergy at a nightclub (much to the dismay of Eddie and Chuck's dad). They thought they hit the jackpot hanging out in a bar and taking pictures with the band members (See the Timeline for a photo of this). Mrs. "O" also got them into a studio for a posed photo-shoot (photo also in the timeline).
Inspired, the guys originally named the band Synergy II which they imagined to be so creative. It was about a year of this playing, writing and recording songs on cassette tapes that they invited another neighborhood friend to join them. Jimmy Johnson was a natural fit as by this time they all had a passion for bands like America, Firefall, and the Eagles.
Jimmy was a guitar player when they first got together, but with both Eddie and Steve on the guitar, Jimmy decided to pick up the bass since that was a key element missing from the lineup. Almost immediately, the music arrangements and harmonies felt special and would produce friendships and musical alliances that would last for many decades.
From that point on they spent all their free time learning songs, working on vocal harmonies, and writing their own material. It wasn't long before they had their first gig. It was also around this time that they settled on the name Foxfire. Foxfire played together, both live and in the studio for many years, until one by one they started finding interests in other directions. Sadly, the band ended up taking the back seat in 1985 when Jimmy and Eddie co-founded another group called Lost Children which included Billy Fischer as their 3rd vocalist. Chuck later joined Lost Children as their percussionist, and Steve helped with sound and some vocals. LC was together for almost a decade before the guys basically got a bit burnt out. As the years past, Chuck and Eddie moved out of state and Steve fell out of touch.
In 2016, brothers Eddie and Chuck were in Cleveland to visit family and managed to finally track down Steve. They called Jimmy and the three of them showed up at Steve's house with instruments in hand. Since that day they have been getting together whenever possible to play music, revive old originals, and write new ones along the way. After many years they seemed to pick right back up where they left off so many years ago and are writing songs at a faster clip than ever before.
Today they look forward to writing and releasing some of their new and old songs for the public to enjoy. They also hope to bring an open organic style to their music with instruments and vocals recorded with a live feel. And most of all. they look to enjoy playing and have a lot of fun along the way.
