Steve (known to many as "Big Steve") is one of the founding members of Foxfire. Some believe that he was born strumming his unique rhythms on the day he was born. Although Steve's first electric guitar was a 1968 Gibson SG, he seemed to gravitate more to the harmonic melodies of the 6 and 12 string acoustic guitars. Steve not only plays a great rhythm guitar...he sings, writes, and his harmonica playing can be heard on a few Foxfire songs.
Steve began writing at a very early age. Writing words to songs came naturally and easily to him. Early on, he would endlessly record ideas, music and vocals on cassette tapes (how many of you remember those?). He has a vast collection of lyrics just waiting to become that next musical hit.
Steve is always thinking and writing music. To this day when bored at work, he finds himself drifting into song writing mode. One of Big Steve strengths lie's in reflecting the emotions of his lyrics that enables him to convey many feelings. His talents are self-taught and come very naturally. Steve has a smooth baritone and distinct sound that resonates in all his vocals. In the early 1980's, both Steve and Eddie attended the school for audio engineering at Beachwood Studios in Cleveland Ohio.
While on Hiatus from Foxfire, Big Steve played with some independent musicians and helped run sound, worked with the road crew and was a special guest vocalist for the band Lost Children.
His sense of humor is never ending. Along with his humor of things, Steve has kept Foxfire filled with laughter since its inception. He never misses an opportunity to have fun! Steve has been influenced by many and gravitates to the sounds of CSN, The Eagles, America, Seals and Croft. Steve is also famous for coining the phrase: "I am Just sayin...".
Besides his work as a folder, gluer, machine operator (whatever that is!)...how does Steve spend his free time? With a cold beer (or two) in his hand, eating a double cheese, double mushroom, and anchovy pizza while playing music. He is a great guy and would give you his last penny if you needed it.
